1. How can I find out which officer or detective is handling my case?

Please contact our Records Division at 701-515-5794 so they can find out who is handling your particular case.

2. How do I get information on a specific police report?

Some police reports are not available to be released until after court hearings are completed and the case is considered closed.  Other records are restricted due to privacy laws and can't be released.  To see if the record you want is available as an open record, please contact our Records Division.

3. How do I get a copy of my driving record?

The West Fargo Police Department is not authorized to release a copy of your driving record. You can view and print your driving record online at www.dot.nd.gov.

4. How do I find out about registered sex offenders in my area?

For a list of all offenders in the State of North Dakota, please refer to the Attorney General's website regarding sex offenders at www.sexoffender.nd.gov.

5. Can I get a copy of a police report or accident report?

Yes. Police reports and accident reports can be requested from the West Fargo Police Department. Accident reports are $7.00 per report. Police reports cost $.25 per page, but are free to the victims of the crime report. 

Payment for the reports may be made in cash, credit card, check or money order form. There is a convenience fee of $2 or 3 percent of the payment due for credit card payments.

6. How do I make a police report?

A police report can be made at any time, on any day by calling 701-451-7660 and an officer will be assigned. 

You can also file a report in person at the West Fargo Police Department (800 Fourth Ave. E., Suite 2) during business hours 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

7. How do I file a complaint about an officer?

If you have an issue with an officer, please visit the West Fargo Police Department and inform a desk clerk of your intention to file a complaint. You can also call 701-515-5500 to have a complaint form sent to you. A complaint form will have to be filled out in order to register your complaint. Once the completed paperwork is turned in, a supervisor will review the matter and follow up with you regarding the issue.

8. Do officers have a quota for the number of tickets they write?

West Fargo police officers are not required to write a certain amount of tickets. However, officers are encouraged to make traffic stops and issue tickets, as traffic violations and the accidents that result from them, are a major concern to most citizens.

9. How do police decide where to run radar for speeding?

There are no specific criteria for determining where radar enforcement will occur, but the West Fargo Police Department gives extra attention to neighborhoods and other areas where children and pedestrians are more likely to be present. Radar is an enforcement tool used in areas where the police department gets frequent complaints from the public about speeding and where traffic accidents are an ongoing problem.
