1. Do I have to call for utility locates?

Yes, state law requires anyone digging to have utilities marked, call 811.

2. It looks like there is no room for a tree, what do I do?

Please complete the application, the Forestry Department will check to ensure there is not enough room for a tree, residents still receive the full deposit amount back.

3. Can I plant any species of tree?

No, the Forestry Department has an approved tree list.

4. Can I add trees in the future?

Yes, trees can always be added in the future, as long as there is room. A tree planting permit is required each time. The deposit is a one-time program.

5. If I plant more then two trees, do I get more than the $300.00 deposit back?

No, Unfortunately the department can only pay out the deposit that we collected. 

6. The Forestry Department marked more than two locations; do I have to plant them all?

No, the tree deposit only requires residents to plant the minimum of two trees per property to receive the full deposit.

7. How big should the tree be?

The Forestry Department requires the tree to be a minimum of a 1” caliper, typically this is a 6-8’ tall tree.

8. Can I plant a fruit tree?

No, the Forestry Department does not allow fruit trees in the boulevards. Crabapples and other trees that have small fruit must be persistent. 

9. I would like a specific variety or cultivar of a tree, is this allowed?

Yes, as long as the base species is on the list, cultivars are allowed.

10. Only one tree location was marked, do I only get half the deposit?

No, you will receive the full deposit amount back. 

11. The location marked is directly on top of a utility, can I move the location?

Yes, the Forestry Department allows resident to move a location a foot or two away from any potential utility conflicts.
